Are donations to the Society tax deductible?

Donations to the Society of Friends of Ephesos are tax-deductible as special expenses in accordance with the applicable Austrian Income Tax Act, as the non-profit association is listed as a beneficiary organisation for donations.

What amount is tax deductible?

The deductibility of donations is limited in amount:

  • Donations from private individuals are tax-deductible as special expenses up to 10% of the total income for the respective year.

  • Donations in kind and monetary donations from companies are deductible as operating expenses up to 10% of profits (before taking into account the profit allowance).

What do I need to consider to ensure that my donation is tax deductible?

If you wish to claim your donation to the Society for tax purposes, please note your first and last name and date of birth on the payment slip or when paying online. We must report this information in encrypted form to the tax authorities so that your donation can be clearly identified.
Please ensure that the spelling of your name matches the spelling in the Central Register of Residents (‘Meldezettel’).

Can donations be made anonymously?

Of course, anonymous donations are still possible.

How can I see what amount has been transferred to the Austrian tax office?

With your FinanzOnline access, you can view the donation amount reported by beneficiary organisations. Donations from the previous year appear there automatically from March of the following year.

If you do not have FinanzOnline access, you can view the amount on your tax assessment notice.

Is my membership fee tax deductible?

Genuine membership fees, i.e. those that enable participation in club activities, are not tax deductible.
